I'm currently sitting with my family around the fire pit for the first fire of the summer. The adult kids came down for the weekend so we could celebrate my youngest's birthday and we've been outdoors as much as possible.
We've been enjoying all the bugs.
We're in the middle of a cicada hatch of biblical proportions. They are everywhere and singing up a storm. With the arrival of hot weather, they have been a laser-like chorus from morning until night.
Thursday night provided a beautiful thunderstorm followed shortly thereafter by the first fireflies of the season. They have been floating around the backyard and in the trees every night since.
Finally, the mosquitoes in the swamp down by the creek have joined us for the summer.
We were less impressed with them. But we just keep a box fan going on the front porch, and it's enough of a breeze to keep them away.
Yes, it seems the
bugs of summer have arrived. So, this Sunday, I'm going to fill our newsletter with bugs, bugs and more bugs!
