Hi there, Rural Sprout readers,Â
We’re another week closer to the growing season. Not that you would know from looking out my windows. There’s snow everywhere, and it’s still cold and windy. But the sun is shining, and my houseplants are beginning to stir from their winter
dormancy.Â
I’ve found tiny buds on several of my plants.Â
My houseplants are rather obliging, providing me with something to occupy my time until I can play in the dirt outdoors. This is the time of year when I usually repot everything. Even if they don’t need a bigger pot, they need new soil and a good
pruning.Â
Really, this is just the beginning of the “green itch.” It has set in early this year.Â
I’m riffling through the same seed catalogs that I’ve looked at dozens of times already. My seeds have already been ordered. But you never know; I might have missed something.  I’m doing everything I can to stop myself from starting ALL THE SEEDS!  I think this year’s early onset of “Green Itch” is due to how cold the past month has been. Normally, I’m outside even in the winter, trudging around the woods in all their snow-covered majesty. But when the weather presents the possibility of frostbite and hypothermia, I’m all for staying inside. And let’s face
it; there are only so many pairs of gloves and mittens you can knit before you start longing for warmer weather. Â
Even if warmer means somewhere in the mid-30s.Â
How about you, my friend? How are you holding up? Has the “green itch” set in? What are you doing to stay sane? For those in warmer climates, what have you got growing already? We love to hear from you! Â
