Hi there, Rural Sprout readers,Â
I suppose, as it’s the final weekend of September, we’ll be wrapping up apple season, and it will be on to pumpkin season. I’m a fan of winter squash in general and all its various forms.Â
I’ve got a lovely blue hubbard squash, just waiting to be smashed open and made into soup.Â
With all the rain from Helene, I’ve been making and eating quite a bit of soup this week. Are you a soup fan in the fall, too? What’s your favorite soup to make or eat this time of year?  I was working late one evening and happened to look out my office window around 7:10. Â
I suppose fall has well and truly arrived then. Now, I just need the temperature to drop so I can break out my sweaters. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for hibernation season. I know we offer lots of great ways to extend your growing season well
into the winter months, but about this time each year, I’m ready to give it a rest.Â
Mother Nature takes a break, and I’m more than happy to follow her lead.Â
As the days get shorter, I find myself drawn to quieter tasks – reading, putting together a jigsaw puzzle, listening to jazz albums and knitting.  How about you, dear readers? Are you ready for a seasonal shift? Do you tend to pick up quieter activities this time of year? How do you prepare for the
shortened days? Â
