This Wednesday, we’re going to talk about soil health and underwear.Â
Yes, I’m mentioning unmentionables.  You’re probably wondering what they have to do with gardening. I know I certainly was when I was reading Mickey’s latest
article. But believe it or not, a pair of cotton undies can tell you a lot about your soil health.
I’m sure I’ve only confused you further at this point.
Instead of trying to explain, I’m just going to point you to Mickey’s article. (Trust me, it all makes sense in the end.) Â
If you plan on getting seedlings in the ground, you’ll want to inoculate them with mycorrhizae. The benefits of using mycorrhizae last all season long but will only work if the roots of your seedlings are exposed to these beneficial fungi. The time to do
that is now when you’re planting. Â
If you're truly curious about your soil health, there are a few tests you can do right at home with no special equipment. Â
Not to mention there are numerous ways to improve your garden soil, which in turn will improves your yields. I stumbled upon one way purely by accident a few years ago. Â
If you have raised beds, soil health is even more important. You don't necessarily need to replace all of the soil, there are ways you can rejuvenate old raised bed soil. Â
