It's What's Up Wednesday!
Midweek greetings, my friends,Â
Last week, I had tomatoes on the brain; this week, it’s strawberries, and it’s all because of Mickey! She’s been planting bare root strawberries. Her photos of juicy, red berries have me dreaming of strawberry rhubarb pie, strawberries topped with heavy
cream and homemade strawberry jam with lemon zest.
If you’ve been dreaming of a berry patch but the price puts you off, bare root plants are the way to go. They’re far less expensive than transplants. But if the thought of planting bare roots is a bit intimidating, you’re not
alone.  Many gardeners avoid bare roots plants because they’re unsure of how to plant them.  Not this year! Mickey will walk you through the whole process, demystifying bare root planting once and for all. (I promise, it’s not nearly as scary or difficult as it seems.)
Once you master bare root strawberries, you’ll have a world of inexpensive plants open up before you*.
And if you already have a strawberry patch, we've got a few reads to help you get it ready and produce more berries this year.  *Rural Sprout will not be held responsible for the heady sense of power that comes from learning how easy it is to grow bare root plants or the inherent excessive purchasing of more bare root plants beyond strawberries that follows such epiphanies. Â
