Hello, Rural Sprout readers,Â
Another week has come and gone, and suddenly it’s Sunday. We had a lovely weekend. The Big Kids came down from Buffalo for a quick holiday weekend with the boys, Andy, and me. My house was full of noise and Christmas lights and food and fart jokes. Â
Last night, we took a ride on a beautiful steam engine at East Broad Top Railroad.Â
The cars were decorated for Christmas with soft white lights, pine garland and sparkling Christmas ornaments swinging back and forth as we moved down the tracks. We were nice and toasty from the small coal stove in the train car. Â
It was everything a Christmas train ride should be – magical.Â
As we find ourselves in the thick of the holiday season, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. Before you know it, we’re celebrating a new year and feeling windswept and bewildered as the festivities draw to a close. Â
In the midst of singing Christmas carols last night, Andy got our attention and pointed out the window.Â
In the darkness, tiny glowing embers from the engine floated on the wind outside our windows in the dark. For a brief moment, we all watched silently, swaying gently with the motion of the train – all of us snug in a little train car while the black velvet night pressed on the windows and tiny sparks of
orange sped past. Â The conversations continued around us, but our little family had stolen a moment of our own at the busiest time of the year. Â Be present, my friends, and steal tiny, magical moments for you and your family this holiday season. Â Â Â Â
