Yesterday was one of my favorite types of fall day – cool and rainy. I love the way the fog settles around the shoulders of the hills. It makes the valley feel snug and cozy. And lucky me, it looks like today will be the same.

Summer is always so busy.Â

I think that’s why I love winter so much; everything slows down and goes quiet in nature. And it all starts now, during the fall.Â

Yesterday was the autumnal equinox. I decided to celebrate by tidying up my home and
opening all the windows to let the cool, damp air blow out the stale summer season and usher in autumn. Did you do anything special to mark the change?

The sun is setting noticeably earlier these days, and the cool nights have made for some great fire pit weather. I even got to wear one of my hand-knit sweaters yesterday – in September! I was downright giddy. Â

There’s so much to love about this season, even if you aren’t tempted to hop on the Pumpkin Spice bandwagon.

I’ve got fresh, local apple cider in the fridge and butternut squash on the table to be made into soup today. Maybe I’ll even bake an apple pie; who knows?Â
