Hiya, Rural Sprout readers, Hoo boy, my tail is dragging this morning. My sweetie and I went on quite the adventure
yesterday. He’s a bit of a railroad fan. (Is there such a thing as a “bit” of a railroad fan?) And yesterday, we drove out to Maryland so he could pick up an old speeder car to restore. We took the scenic route and drove through rural Pennsylvania, where I spotted plenty of Amish nurseries with row after row of potted mums getting ready for this fall. And then we traveled along mile after mile of cornfields in Maryland as we approached the
coast. One of my favorite things to do on our road trips is to knit the miles away and admire the scenery. I paid particular attention
to all the gardens we drove past—especially vegetable gardens. Whether large vegetable patches or a couple of potted tomatoes on someone’s porch, it was rare to pass a home without something growing. When we drove through beautiful
downtown Lancaster, I spotted a couple of impressive houseplant “jungles” on balconies and porches. Whenever we’re out and about, and I’m checking out what everyone is growing, I often find myself wondering, “Hmm, is that the home of one of our readers?” Maybe we need a “Honk if you love Rural Sprout” bumper sticker. I can’t wait for you to read Cheryl’s
article on how to make brandied cherries. The pictures alone had my mouth watering, and now I need to head to the local orchard for cherries. We’ve got some tasty recipes for zucchini (all squash) flowers. If you’ve got a bumper crop of sweet cherry tomatoes, you might want to check out all the delicious ways you can use sun-dried tomatoes. We’ve all been busy growing, and now it’s time to eat!
