Cheryl has a great article on
this UK-based tradition that has made its way to the states. And it got me thinking about our attitudes toward unmown lawns when we see them.
Â
We often see unmowed lawns as a sign of neglect. We think of that one neighbor not doing their part to keep the neighborhood looking tidy and neat.Â
A green, perfectly trimmed lawn is such a part of American life that the sight of one that’s even a few inches longer than a neighbor’s catches our eye. We wonder if the owner is on vacation, or perhaps it’s a sign that something is wrong.Â
Can you imagine driving through a development and seeing a lawn covered in grasses and wildflowers as high as your knees? Or how about an entire block of homes with yards that looked more like a meadow?Â
